Last December saw the addition of a new member to the APC Singapore community – Simon Flint.
In his spare time, Simon focuses on philanthropy & voluntary work. A minimum of 50% of his giving is directed to charities identified by the Effective Altruism movement’s Givewell (e.g. The Against Malaria Foundation), and he is a signatory to the ‘Giving What We Can’ pledge (i.e. pledging to give at least 10% of one’s income to the organisations that one thinks can do the most good). He also makes regular contributions to Komunitas Taufan (a charity for gravely-ill & impoverished kids in Jakarta), & EMPOWER (a global philanthropy group focused on at-risk youth in emerging market countries), among others. He is also a Trustee of the Awesome Foundation Singapore, & actively supports @CountMeInID, an Indonesian volunteer network with around 15k subscribers.
In his day-job, Simon has been Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for Dymon Asia for four years – investing in equities, fixed income and foreign exchange. He focuses on G10 and Asian markets. Prior to joining Dymon Asia, Simon was Managing Director and Head of Global FX Strategy at Nomura (previously Lehman Brothers). His Asian Fixed Income and North American FX teams were ranked #1 by Institutional Investor, and his European team #2. Prior to Lehman Brothers, he was Head of Global FX Strategy at Merrill Lynch. He has a Masters’ degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
