KL Roundtable

KL Roundtable

APC members, fellow philanthropists and a few education experts convened in KL to discuss education challenges in the country in June. Discussions centred on the gaps in interventions in the education system where APC could play a meaningful role, given that there were many players already involved in trying to tackle the issues including government ministries and private groups.

The meeting decided to address the substantial gaps in the special needs education area, which lacked proper identification, trained educators, and appropriate curriculum. With overwhelming issues in mainstream education, special needs education receives meagre resources, both from the state and from private funding. Moreover, enabling inclusive education would benefit all pupils, not just those with special needs. The APC Secretariat is tasked with learning more about the area of special needs education and reporting back with a background paper in due time.
